Model of the Classification of Second Language Phonemes
نویسندگان
چکیده
The paper presents a vowel classification model that explicitly predicts vowel identification by second language (L2) learners based on the phonological map of their first language (L1). The model represents vowels in formant space by polar coordinates with the mid-range of the formants as the origin. The model assumes that category boundaries bisect the angles made by two adjacent category centroids. It further assumes that the probability of an L2 vowel being classified as a L1 vowel depends on the angular difference between the L2 vowel formants and the L1 vowel boundaries. The model was trained on Spanish vowels and tested on English vowels, and it outperformed other models in predicting the behavioral data.

In this study, recognition rates of consonants available in vowel-consonant-vowel structure in hearing tests and two microscopic models will be investigated. Such a syllable structure doesn’t exist in Farsi and Azerbaijani languages, but since the goal is only recognition of middle phoneme, according to hearing tests, listeners are able to properly recognize phonemes in clean speech conditions....

Introduction:Verbal language is Fundamental component for expressing ideas, social interaction and understanding educational materials. Effective communications require verbal language skills. Sound pillows may partly address the children with behavior problems. The purpose of this study was assessing the effect of educational sound pillow in the treatment of stuttering and cognitive phonemes i...

Objectives: This paper studies the effect of Persian Cued Speech on the perception of Persian language phonemes and monosyllabic words with and without sound in hearing impaired children. Cued Speech is a sound based mode of communication for hearing impaired people that is comprised of a limited series of hand complements and the normal pattern of speech. And it is shown that it effectively ca...
متن کاملLanguage identification with limited resources
Language identification is an important issue in many speech applications. We address this problem from the point of view of classification of sequences of phonemes, given the assumption that each language has its own phonotactic characteristics. In order to achieve this classification, we have to decode the speech utterances in terms of phonemes. The set of phonemes must be the same for all th...
متن کاملPhoneme Classification Using Temporal Tracking of Speech Clusters in Spectro-temporal Domain
This article presents a new feature extraction technique based on the temporal tracking of clusters in spectro-temporal features space. In the proposed method, auditory cortical outputs were clustered. The attributes of speech clusters were extracted as secondary features. However, the shape and position of speech clusters change during the time. The clusters temporally tracked and temporal tra...
